Decorate Your Children’s Bedroom With A Theme
Before you can begin you’ll need an idea. You will not have to look very far, let the kids be your decorating inspiration.
Kids have wonderful ideas and are filled with imagination, so let their personality and interests be your inspiration. Talk with them about what they would like in their room – even small children have favorite colors, a special book or a much loved stuffed toy.
By getting their input your more likely to have a successful project, however more important this shows them that their thoughts, opinion and ideas matter. To help jump-start those creative juices listed below are several Theme Ideas for a child’s bedroom.
A Magical Fairy Theme
Their large and small, boys and girls, their happy and magical, they live in the forest the trees the garden, why not bring them into your little girls room. Fairies have been around for centuries and if you believe and are very quite you might just catch a glimpse of one hiding in the corner.
Soft pastel shades of pink, peach, lavender, green or yellow would be a wonderful color scheme for the room. Use one color for the walls then another for the bedding and window treatments. A simple way to dress the walls without a lot of work would be by hanging groups of Fairy Theme inspired artwork.
Bedding and window treatments can be done in either a fairy print or a solid pastel color. If the walls are going to have a lot of detail, a solid color will keep the room from becoming to busy and distracting. If also makes future redecorating easier.
Decorative pillows and an extra blanket or comforter in a small size than the bed will add or more color to a solid color comforter not to mention be perfect for those sleepy weekend naps.
Flowers & Butterflies Theme
All girls love flowers and lots of them, when colorful butterflies are added you’ve got the makings of a very special bedroom. There are so many possibilities to help turn a plain bedroom into her very own Enchanted Garden.
Taking ideas from the Fairies Theme, paint or stencil a large garden trellis on one wall, add lots and lots of colorful flowers growing from the bottom. Stencil ivy and flower vines around the inside mix in butterflies and maybe a few cute little bees (just for good measure) and you’ve now got unique focal point in the room.
Moving on to bedding and window treatments, there are endless floral patterns available everything from big mod, funky colored flowers to more simple prints. Choose window treatments to match or take a color from the bedding, toss some fun flower and butterfly shaped pillows on and instant dreamland.
It won’t be hard finding accessories for this type of room. Flowers are found on everything from lampshades to area rugs. Dress up lampshades with butterflies, flower petals or pretty ribbon. Hang several groups of prints in colorful frames.
A watering can from the garden filled with silk flowers adds charm even resin (will not break easy) garden bunnies would look cute nestled in the corner under an artificial bush. A collection of butterfly and flower inspired sun catchers hanging in windows will provide magic in the afternoon.
A Space Theme
Help your little ones take a wonderful trip to another Galaxy by using a theme based on the planets in their room. Start with the wall color, deep blues or a blue gray paint color is a good base to continue the theme with. To enhance the walls try using a planet theme wall border or hand painted planets and stars. Using Reflective paint will make your galaxy shine at night.
Accessorizing the room is going to be easy. The following are just a few ideas to get you started
- Models of Space Ships and Solar Systems
For models look in your local craft or hobby stores, then line them up on shelves placed around the room or hang the ships from fishing line from the ceiling. Another accessory that will make a wonderful focal point on the walls is by using posters or prints.
A Sports Theme
Football Basketball Baseball Soccer ... It could also be Hockey, Car Racing, Horse Racing, Motor Cross, Rugby, Skiing or Swimming the list goes on and on. Most every boy and many girls love some type of sports so if your little athlete is passionate about one or more of them why not fill their bedroom with inspiration.
Begin your hall of fame with the walls. Painting is the easiest and less expensive way to add personality, color choices can include blue, gray or red. Of course a really simple way to dress up the walls is by using art. Whether it’s one particular sport, sports personality or a combination of several, sports posters & photographs are readily available.
Finding the right bedding for your sports theme room will not be difficult. Pretty much everywhere you look you’ll find something related too most sports. You can choose an overall sports theme that includes various types of sports or if you kids love one particular sport or team then look for items dealing with just that particular one. Keep in mind that he or she may love football or baseball today, however next month it could be something else entirely.
