Decorating A Playroom For Kids - Creativity, Imagination & Dreams by Bonnie P Carrier
A child’s playroom is an active area of the home a place of imagination, creativity and excitement, where they can spend time playing with friends or  simply by themselves creating a masterpiece
Playroom Color Kids love bright cherry colors like orange, yellow, pink, blue and green. Consider painting one wall in one bright color then paint the remainder of the room with one or more complementary colors.
Walls painted a soft neutral color such as brown earth tones, soft greens or blues will give a calming effect to the room, you can then use brighter colors as accents.
Example; window treatments, floor pillows, painted furniture pieces, stacking storage cubes.
Murals These are a great way to bring life, color and smiles into the playroom.
Furniture Kids do a lot of bouncing and banging even when they are involved in a solitude activity such as puzzles or drawing. Tables and chairs should be made of wood and the table should have rounded edges to reduce the risk of injury. Some over sized pillows and a throw for them to sprawl when doing an activity. Keep the design and amount of furniture simple, kids love to be on the floor.
Function Plan your children's playroom to accommodate interests and activities, while allowing for future growth. Use plenty of light and generous flat surfaces for art or craft projects, schoolwork or just spreading out. Use adjustable shelves that can display current favorites, but swap out as fads change.
Storage Kids just seem to be a natural magnet for "stuff." Open shelving, window seats and wall units are ideal for books, videotapes, computer games and treasures on display. Use bins, boxes and baskets for smaller items, these can be tucked away behind closed doors for a neater look.
Surfaces Think washable. If there are upholstered pieces in the room consider slipcovers that can be tossed in the washer when necessary. For the wall a good quality latex paint will make cleaning those little hand prints off much easier.
For the flooring, select heavy-duty commercial-grade carpeting treated for stain resistance. Another benefit or carpeting is that it absorbs the impact from fall. Another option for the playroom floor would be to use Cushion Tiles; they are soft, absorbent come in a variety of fun colors plus are easy to clean.
Safety Be sure drawers have catches that keep them from being pulled out completely. Check for rough edges on wood, sand and smooth out to avoid splinters. Bookcases and other tall pieces should be anchored to the wall with toggle bolts and brackets to keep from toppling over.
Space to Be Creative Give the kids a big palette to get creative on, consider painting one wall of the playroom with chalkboard paint, clean up is made simple with a damp cloth. If you prefer to keep things on a more subtle scale, a writing desk or easel near a bright window is enough. A simple art caddy or nearby shelf for supplies will keep things tidy.
A well thought out playroom encourages creativity, imagination but most important hours of fun.
