Add Color & Texture To Your Home With Plants & Flowers by Bonnie P Carrier
Plants & Flowers are a beautiful accessory to add to your home decorating. Live potted green plants also help clean the air, and who can resist fresh flowers, they just seem to lift your spirits.
Plants add color and texture to a room, so if you only want to add one thing use a plant or a gorgeous flower arrangement
Sometimes however the lighting in a room is not plant friendly or maybe you travel a lot and are unable to properly care for them, then what do you do?
In this case consider using artificial, they are made so life like today that it’s really hard to tell that their not real.
The benefits are they can be put in places live ones can’t like the corner of a room, on top of a bookcase or hutch, and best of all the maintenance is minimal, the occasional wipe with a damp cloth and no watering. How perfect is that?
We all love fresh flowers, but let’s face it sometimes they can be expensive and they don’t last forever. However, don’t hesitate to use fresh flowers for a special occasion (even everyday is possible) as nothing replaces their wonderful scent and beautiful form.
A perfect solution to this is to use Silk Flowers, they are made so well today most of the time it’s really hard to tell they are not real.
Another important benefit to using silk is the cost, buy them once and with a little care they will last for many year.
Cleaning is also easy, an occasional wipe with a damp cloth is really all that’s needed.
The plants in the picture at right are actually real. They are Herb plants put into a simple box. Now this idea is not only a great decorating accessory but put on the counter in the kitchen you’ve also gained a terrific ingredient for cooking.
Dried Flowers are another option. Most craft stores carry a wide variety of dried flowers,
everything from grass, berries, flowers and seep pods. By putting 4 or 5 seed pods in a vase - as shown at left - you have a very simple arrangement that would work well any where.
The furnishings in my home are light toned woods and the accessories are mainly folk art / primitive - country. I use a lot of dried floral groupings as the wheat, berries and seed pods fit my decor best.
However no matter what style your decor is there are dried flowers that would work well. Again using the picture at left, these seed pods in this particular clear vase would work well in a contemporary setting, change the container to stoneware or an aged copper pitcher and they fit in casual - country.
